Adoption and Guardianship
The California family law attorneys at The Law Offices of Thomas & Associates can help with the adoption, guardianship and/or conservatorship process. Our legal staff has experience making sure that adoptions, conservatorships, and guardianships are legal and binding. If you are considering an adoption or legal guardianship, please contact our family law attorneys at The Law Offices of Thomas & Associates to discuss your legal needs.
What is Guardianship?
California guardianship most commonly applies to children. In California, a guardian is appointed by the court to be responsible for a person under the age of eighteen. Guardians are commonly appointed when a parent is unfit or upon the death of both parents. There are three categories of guardianship: guardian of the person, guardian of the estate, and guardian of the person and the estate. At The Law Offices of Thomas & Associates, we can advise you on the rights and responsibilities of guardianship variations, and can file and pursue an appropriate petition in court. We can also advise you on alternatives to guardianship that may easily accomplish your goals.

Facilitating Adoptions
The Law Offices of Thomas & Associates can help you pursue traditional or step-parent adoptions in California. We can ease your way through the legal process. We ensure that all of our clients have the legal advice to make sure that all agreements are valid and enforceable. Additionally, we are effective at litigating non-consensual step-parent adoption cases where the rights of the non-custodial parent must be terminated.
What is Conservatorship?
Conservatorships most commonly apply to adults. If a family member suffers from a mental disability, is not competent, or is no longer able to handle their own affairs, a California court may appoint a conservator to manage that person's affairs.
